Akari Goda-Maurezzutt is a heritage scientist
Akari Goda-Maurezzutt is a heritage scientist with a background in chemistry, art history and conservation science.

She has undergraduate degrees in Chemistry and Art History from Mills College in Oakland, California and a Master’s in Science degree in Conservation-Restoration of Cultural Heritage from the Università di Bologna in Ravenna, Italy. Her thesis focused on the material composition of Teotihuacan ceramic vessels.

She worked in conservation science laboratories, art conservation studios and museums before starting a PhD at the University of Oxford under Professor Chris Gosden, Dr Ruiliang Liu, and Dr Aude Mongiatti. She’s using scientific analysis and archival documents to investigate bronze artefacts from China and Mongolia in the British Museum’s collections to understand how they were produced and used before burial.
